Tissue

Definition

The term tissue is used for an ensemble of similar cells of the same origin, possibly along with an extracellular matrix that holds them together, that jointly serve a common function.

Unlike cells, tissues are a little fuzzier in terms of their boundary; for instance, part of a tissue can be removed and the rest of it would still be considered tissue.
